The Format to a Successful Patient Workshop/Orientaion
Patient workshops are probably the best practice builder there is. They not only provide the patient with important knowledge about chiropractic, they strengthen doctor patient bonding and open patients up to refer others. To be successful workshops need to follow a certain format.
- They need to influence both halves of the brain. They must be interesting but, they have to evoke right brain emotion to make people take action.
- Always start by asking questions to expose people to their own beliefs. “How many of you believe that if you have symptoms you’re sick, and if you don’t you’re healthy? How many people here think a doctor’s job is to make you feel better? How many of you want to be at your optimum health potential?”
- Development-
- The egg and sperm are controlled by innate intelligence (mother nature).
- The brain and nervous system are built first (18th day after conception) and will control all body function.
- The brain is both a generator and a computer. It generates life force energy to all cells and tissues and processes and responds to all inputs to the body.
- Stopping nerve impulse results in functional death.
- Nerve interference from subluxation results in disease (damage or dysfunction). This is silent. Use examples like heart disease. A person doesn’t feel the artery clogging with fat!
- When enough disease accumulates a threshold is met and that’s when symptoms occur. A heart attack, for example, is the symptom of heart disease.
- A D.C.’s job is to correct the subluxation not treat the symptom. Drugs treat symptoms. Our job is to restore nature’s forces by removing interference to nature. Nature (innate) does the healing; for example: use the plant poster or finger poster. Closing the paddcock on a garden hose will cut off water to the plant. The plant doesn’t just fall over when this happens. It takes time for disease (damage) to occur before the symptoms of wilting start. To restore the plant you open the paddcock. Your job is no to heal the plant or make claims on nature’s ability to heal it.
- At this point review M.D.’s on drugs and M.D.’s on chiropractic poster to show many M.D.’s support this position. Also show medical research on somatovisceral problems supporting chiropractic philosophy from our research notes.
- “Now that you understand body development, if you want to be at your optimum health potential, you need to understand what is essential for life and health. There are four things. If you stop these independent of each other you will die and if you interfere with their quantity or quality, your heath potential will be lower.”
- Review food, water, oxygen, and nerve impulse and the importance of maintaining them for optimum health potential.
- There are two important concepts here
1. If there are four essentials for health, you need to maintain three; food, water, oxygen, with exercise and diet.
2. Lack of maintenance results in problems. Problems are silent until enough damage occurs to get into crisis. Crisis is when symptoms occur. If you just treat the symptom, the crisis is gone but the problem is still there. When the problem is fixed, maintenance is required or the process will start all over again. Explain that the majority of people are in your clinic because they didn’t maintain their spine.
- Explain that subluxations occur as an adaptation to chemical, physical and mental stress.
- Use other patients’ testimonials to evoke emotion. People will act based on their emotion. Show before and after x-rays. Have people stand up and testify about their results. End your class with one emotionally impacting testimonial.
- Close by asking people if they would help someone like the people they just heard about, if they had the chance? Have them put the names of the people they care most about on a piece of paper. Walk them thru their house, work, and place of worship. Next ask them to look at the list and ask “what if they are subluxated?” Review the points you made in the class. Tell them to list their symptoms next to their name if they have any, and their phone number if they know it. Tell them to call these people and tell them about chiropractic, and ask them if they would like the doctor to call and go over their problems with them. Tell them you will be more than happy to take the time and review their case with them personally. After a few days, follow up with your patients and call the people who are interested.
Both the patient and their friend will appreciate you taking your valuable time to try and help them. This will improve doctor patient bonding and provide your best source of your best type of new patients.
Lastly, remember to always lead with your heart. Patients will be emotionally moved by your heart first, then by what you say. Don’t try to get new patients. Pour out your purpose and desire to help people and new patients will always follow. HAVE FUN!
